Shannon Klingman, Inventor / CEO Of Lume Deodorant, On Solving A Pain Point And Shifting The Narrative

Elayne Fluker Podcast  |  Feb 7th, 2018

Inventor Shannon Klingman is on a mission to change the narrative on feminine hygiene and bust the myth that the vagina is to blame! As a practicing Ob/Gyn, she had patients who often complained about odor and, most often, they were misdiagnosed with BV and prescribed antibiotics they didn’t need. This troubled Shannon — a native Midwesterner who was always a questioner and problem solver —  who knew something wasn’t right. When she experienced the symptoms herself while trying to conceive , she set on a determined journey to solve this issue, enlisting independent research and finding studies that showed doctors were  over diagnosing bacterial vaginosis and yeast vaginitis 61% and 73% . The issue, it turns out, was external.

Her solution? Lume Deodorant, the first natural feminine hygiene deodorant that is long lasting, clinically proven to last 48 hours, and that treats private parts and underarm odor. On this episode of the Support is Sexy podcast, Shannon talks about being a determined problem solver, the road to becoming an inventor and patenting your idea, and how important is to tell your story authentically and trust your gut as you build your brand.
